Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Book Week
Book Week is a special time where students celebrate their love of reading and stories. During this week, students dress up as their favourite book characters, sparking creativity and imagination. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore new books, share stories, and foster a lifelong passion for reading. Book Week encourages everyone to discover the magic found in books and the joy they bring to learning.
Connecting to Country
Our staff and students came together for a meaningful 'Connecting to Country' day at Rainbow Beach, Bonny Hills. Guided by our knowledgeable hosts, Belly and Mr. Hayward, we explored rich Aboriginal culture through storytelling, hands-on activities like debarking clap sticks, and learning traditional words. Students discovered the significance of cultural artefacts such as boomerangs and turtle shells, made ochre from natural rocks, and assisted in building a traditional ‘Gunya’ shelter. The day also included exploring local rock platforms to learn about traditional food sources and preparation methods, deepening our connection to country and culture. What a great out-of-the-classroom learning day!
Athletics Carnival
For our Small Schools athletics carnival we join together with Huntingdon, Long Flat, Upper Rollands Plains and Comboyne Public Schools, our students for a day of fun and competitive sports. Students celebrate teamwork, sportsmanship, and community spirit. It’s a great opportunity for students to shine and enjoy a memorable day of athletics and friendship.
Great Aussie Bush Camp
Our Stage 3 students from our 3MAPS schools had an unforgettable adventure at the Great Aussie Bush Camp! Packed with outdoor activities, team challenges, and plenty of time connecting with nature, the camp offered a fantastic way to build friendships, develop new skills, and enjoy the outdoors. The excitement and energy from everyone made this experience a huge success, creating lasting memories and a strong sense of community while enriching learning beyond the classroom.
Fundraising - Stewart House Pajama Day
Our Fundraising Out of Uniform Pyjama Day in support of Stewart House was a lot of fun! Students and staff were able to wear their favourite PJs to school to help raise vital funds to provide children with much-needed rest, care, and support. —comfortable, caring, and giving back!
ANZAC
Each ANZAC Day, our students proudly participate in the Laurieton march, followed by attending the 11am service. Our school leaders respectfully lay a wreath at the cenotaph, honouring the courage and sacrifice of our armed forces. This meaningful tradition helps our school community reflect and remember.
Bush Tucker Workshop
Strong Spirit Aboriginal Services delivered an engaging Bush Tucker Workshop. Students had the opportunity to learn how to make damper and craft snake whistles. They were able to sample a variety of bush tucker delights and enjoy the delicious freshly baked damper.
Surf Life Saving Talk
We welcomed representatives from one of our local Surf Life Saving clubs who visited our school to teach students all about beach safety. They shared important tips on how to stay safe in the water and what to do if you ever need help. It was an inspiring session, and we may have some future lifesavers in the making!
"I loved Aussie Bush Camp. The commando course and the giant swing was AMAZING! I felt so brave climbing and swinging super high – it was the coolest thing ever! Going with the other 3MAPS schools made it even more awesome because we all cheered each other on and made new friends. I wish we could do it again right now!" — a student of Herons Creek Public School
